My Style for Episode 2 of MDS

This week’s episode of Million Dollar Shoppers was interesting to say the least. I met with client Jennifer Gilbert who is an event planner in NYC. If you had the chance to watch the episode, then you already understand my “interesting” experience.  If not, feel free to take a look on Lifetime and learn about my after thoughts.

The first time I met Jennifer was actually the very first day of filming. I had no idea how the show was going to go and was nervous, but in an excited sort of way. I wore a DVF kimono blazer, Stella and Dot necklace with a leather Ted Baker pencil skirt.

I got this awesome kimono at a consignment store, it was half off and brand new!! Never underestimate the power of a good consignment store because it is not always “gently worn” clothes. My Stella and Dot necklace was gifted to me because they work with a lot of TV personalities and I am one of those now!:)

I traveled to Henri Bendels which is one of my favorite accessory stores. I wore another Stella and Dot necklace and my Magachoni white button down. I love this store. It is 3 levels of amazing pieces and is like a huge candy store for someone like me.  It used to be a full department store, but then they realized there are crazy people like me who LOVE a paradise of accessories…

Holy good price for an amazing piece!

This leopard neck tie blouse is a purchase from Off 5th, the best designer discount store ever!!! It is the “leftovers” from Saks. I love a good neck tie blouse.

This Preen dress was absolutely amazing. The material was thick so it actually acts like Spanx when it is on sucking everything in, how fabulous!

Screen Shot 2013-10-18 at 10.06.29 PM

This polka dot DVF blouse was also from the same consignment store the DVF kimono blazer is from AND I bought them on the same day. I walked in because I had time to kill and walked out with so much stuff I could barely carry it. I tried to only purchase a few things, but that is the thing about consignment, if you find amazing things you have to get them or you will never see them again!!!

Interviews are fun. You get to say everything you were thinking the entire time. It is like talking behind someone’s back, but they get to hear it. It is a very weird experience because they take place long after the actual filming and you have to talk in present tense. I am wearing an Alice and Olivia leather bomber and Michael Kors necklace. I am totally obsessed with the gold hardware on the bomber!!!

My Style for Episode 1 of MDS

You can watch the recap video here and learn about my what I was really thinking on Lifetime. Below are some of my favorite outfits I wore during filming. Do you like my hair? I totally have clip in pieces on the sides. I love fake hair!!!!

I am totally obsessed with this Helmut Lang blazer. It is a must have in all my client’s closets. It is originally $600, but of course I managed to get it for $230. It is completely worth the price tag, it literally goes with everything. LOVE. The black jumper is from Aqua and was gifted to me for hosting an event at Bloomingdales. And don’t forget the bag… It is by Milly and was brand new at a consignment store where I snagged it for $120. I hate paying full price (for myself:).

This fun sequin top is from J.Crew and was lent to me by one of my besties. I literally ran out of clothing at this point and production had very specific ideas of what they wanted us to wear during interviews. I paired it with hot pink studs and hot pink lips for just a touch of color.  I didn’t want anything to compete with my top!

This short sleeve tuxedo blazer is from H & M almost 8 years ago. There are certain pieces from that store that seem to last, and then there is the rest of it. I paired it with a fav find from Loehmann’s, I love a good rhinestone necklace.

Screen Shot 2013-10-12 at 10.09.36 PM

This leather bomber is literally da bomb. Yup, I said it. I have never seen another one like it.. Cropped sleeves and a ruffle collar, yes please. I got it over the summer about 5 years ago for $200 down from $600. Off season buying is brilliant if you know it is going to be a staple in your wardrobe.

This blue DVF dress with leather trim was a full price find, but I knew it would really pop on camera. Don’t you think? Honestly, I am kind of impressed with how I look since I accidentally stayed up way to late the night before. 12 hours of filming=go to bed early!!! Lesson learned.

Check out the HUGE bracelet on my left wrist. It is from one of my favorite designers, Kara Ross NY. She lent me a ton of stuff for shooting which is a perk of being me. I probably have on at least one of her pieces in almost every scene of the show. Lucky me:)

Unlimited budget? Apparently so. This is not usually the norm in my real life, but I certainly don’t mind when it happens. Hope and Graceann were hilarious and a total pleasure to work with. They were fun, outgoing and SO excited to be a part of the show. They trusted me as a professional, but weren’t afraid to tell me what they thought. I loved working with them and would be happy to style them again!!

My big debut on the Lifetime Television’s Million Dollar Shoppers series aired  at 10:30pm last night after the season finale of Project Runway!

You can see all of my live tweets at #milliondollarshoppersamy and follow the official hashtag of the show #milliondollarshoppers. And I hope you like these pictures because it was a surprise photo shoot! I showed up to film a shopping segment and there was a photographer there. I kind of freaked out because I knew how I looked that day would be on the internet forever!!! Glad my red jacket really pops, but I probably would have worn my hair down….

Look Inside My Closet

As seen on Lifetime’s site, I photographed some of my favorite items for an inside look into a personal shoppers wardrobe. Living in New York City, closet space is always extremely tight. I make use of the space by staying organized and arranging my clothing by style, THEN color. No one wakes up saying, “I am having a purple day”, so why would you organize your closet like that???

All those plastic bags up top are my spring/summer wardrobe stored away. Oh how I wish I had more closet space!!

Rabbit fur trim suede wedge boots from a consignment store for $130.

mds_closet_amy_02

Also from a consignment store, this Milly bag was brand new and still had the tags on it! I got it half off.

mds_closet_amy_03

From a thrift store, I got this unique piece over 10 years ago and I still love it. I got it when I use to HAVE to shop at Salvation Army, now I still do it just for fun. But only for accessories.

mds_closet_amy_04

Cleaning out the closets of the very wealthy pays off. My client gave these to me because she didn’t like them anymore. The truth is they  hurt my feet, but they say Jimmy Choo so who cares!

mds_closet_amy_05

From my favorite consignment store. It was $55. It is my sexy pirate shirt for nights when I want to say “grrrrrr”.

mds_closet_amy_06

This is from a thrift store and it was a gown. I got it tailored, cutting it to make the dress a mini, and it cost more than the dress. A Missoni look alike for a lot less.

mds_closet_amy_07

Perks of being a personal shopper: I was gifted this by a public relations firm. It is J.Lo at Khol’s and I love it! I continually have people stop me thinking it is super expensive. Pair it will pricy items and it will look that way.mds_closet_amy_08

Also given to me by a client. She didn’t like the print and we were the same size, so I left with it. This might be the hottest dress I own, it looks darn good.mds_closet_amy_09

A great buy from my favorite store, Loehmann’s. I wear it as a pinky ring, because, why not?? Big bling, small finger.

Found at a great vintage store. It is from the early ’70s. It adds vintage funk to any look.

Watch Me on CBS: Kid’s Easter Fashion

On CBS “Live from the Couch” today showing off fashionable looks for kids on Easter. Follow these simple tips and your kids will definitely be super stylish this Sunday!

GIRL’S STYLE:
  • Preppy is always in. Pair a classic dress with a structured blazer to keep warm and stylish at the same time. Don’t forget your Easter bonnet!
  • Stay stylish for your Easter egg hunt by wearing a printed jean with a printed top. The key to mixing patterns is to keep them in the same color family.
  • Classic and pretty is always a winner. Choose a ladylike dress matched with a cardigan for a super stylish Easter. Pockets in your dress add a fun twist.
 BOY’S STYLE:
  • Layering your look will get all the attention. A button down, cardigan and blazer are just the right amount of “formal”. Add a tie for the complete look!
  • Sporty for Easter can really work. Just make sure to keep the colors bright and fun. Choose a windbreaker style jacket with a button down and white jeans for instant fashion and comfort!
  • Who said wearing sneakers was only for the playground? When paired with a comfortable and chic outfit, they can really add a bit of attitude. Layer a zip up sweater  over a button down to dress them up.
