Accessory Crazed! Pick Henri Bendel

I am obsessed with accessories. This is pretty much one of the most simple and straight-forward statements I can make about myself. I love them, I search for them, I hoard them. They are quite simply the easiest way to change up your entire ensemble without spending a ridiculous fortune. When you feel an “emergency shop” coming on where the only thing that is going to fill the void is a purchase, buy accessories.

Henri Bendel’s, a very well-known New York City 5th Avenue store, has become your one stop shop for everything emergency. They have recently rid themselves of everything apparel and are now solely selling trinkets in every possible form. Brown and white stripes being their signature pattern, they have doused their own brand of products with the very sophisticated style. With their price points being nothing short of fantastic, these bobbles are the perfect pick-me-up for any gal who wants to instantly change up her look. No need to live in NYC (although it is pretty amazing:), just go on-line and pick up a few bobbles for yourself!

Love yourself in this scarf with pink trim. At $88, it won’t break the bank, but it will surely pump up any look. Use it as a neck scarf, head scarf or have a little fun and wrap it around your wrist like a bracelet!

This is a great option for a trendy chain link purse. They are SO in style right now. Even though it may be a trend, this piece is classic and neutral. For $178, the cost-per-wear is completely reasonable!

Another option to liven up your look is to refresh those things that live inside your purse. You think they don’t matter, but they really are the details that keep it all together! This is a cute, little sunglasses case that comes with it’s very own attitude. It is an easy purchase at $98. Your sunglasses need to have a fabulous place to live!

Don’t beat yourself up anymore about buying something because you just needed to. Shop accessories and you will inevitably not only use them, but not drain your bank account in the process!

Running Errands in Style

Last night I did a Sass n Style party with a lovely (and entertaining) group of women. One of the women (who has attended twice!) told me about a tweet that Clinton Kelly did about how to look good even at the grocery store. Not to be outdone, I wanted to show off my version of “Errand Chic”.

I have often spoken to clients about how comfort and style SHOULD go hand in hand. People have this idea that unless you have on super high heels you are not looking excessively fashionable. Sex and the City is a TV show people and NO ONE walks miles in 5 inch Manolo’s. Oy, my feet hurt just thinking about it.

The fact that you do not have on your pumps does not mean that the rest of your look should go out the window. It is time for what I refer to as “my pajama look”. It feels like pajamas, but it certainly does not look like them! For those days when getting dressed seems like a task, or you just don’t have to go anywhere that fabulous, you can still look fabulous. In fact, you should always look fabulous! Always.

Pull out those leggings, they are seriously your savior for days like this. If leggings aren’t your thing, jeans are a great second option. One of these two items will work for almost all body types so have your pick. The ideal combination for achieving this stylish “pajama look” is to add a longer, looser top. Remember, you want to be as comfortable as possible so wearing something that is looser through the middle will only promote this. As to not look pregnant, choose a style that has some sort of cinch at the waist, like a belt, or wear a longer necklace to break up the looseness of the shirt. Throwing on a trusty pair of ballet flats will keep the look insanely comfortable and still channel your chic side. A hat and sunglasses are a choice for the day based on how hungover you are or if your hair is way past the point of no return.

So there you have it. There are no excuses and no reason why looking stylishly fab is not a rule for life….. No matter how crappy you feel or where you are going. Done and done.

Grecian Goddess Meets Biker Fab?

I am all about a good combination. Peanut butter and chocolate, sweet and sour, Thelma and Louise… Grecian goddess and biker fab? Um, yes please. I own it, so I make it work. People, I get bored with my clothes too. Everybody, including a stylist, has those days where they feel like they “have nothing to wear”. That is when I have to really step up to the plate and think about new and inventive ways to style what I got. I certainly cannot go out and buy something new everyday I feel bored with my wardrobe. That is not a reality for me and most of the universe out there! Make it work.

None of these pieces are too outrageous separately, but together they make one hell of an interesting and fun combo. White jeans, check. Grey tank top, check. Jean vest, check. Ok, maybe the jean vest is a push for most people, but almost everybody should own white jeans and a grey tank top! The jean vest is a creation that came simply from hating it as a jean jacket. I chopped off the sleeves and instantly created a biker chic jean vest. It certainly can be a bit masculine if it is not paired with a bevy of accessories. It is also definitely not a piece you want to wear if you have broad shoulders or thicker arms! The thick width of the shoulder on the vest will only accentuate these things!

To “feminize” my look and bring in the Grecian goddess feel, I added multiple bracelets, including my coin necklace worn as a bracelet. I also threw on my braided gold headband. I love a wrap around headband because it allows you to NOT do your hair that day:) I topped it all off with my tan leather and gold hardware handbag that is my go to piece for a neutral item that doesn’t ever compete with my look, it just adds that special something! It is like gravy on top of my look… Mmmmmmm, gravy:)

The Jean Western Shirt: A Do or a Don’t?

I have such mixed feelings on this. Truthfully, this can be a super hot piece if done correctly. And oh God, it can be painful when done wrong. The problem is, it is SO easy to get this one wrong!

Over the years of working with private clients and digging into the deep, dark depths of many ‘O closets, I have found lots of scary things. The jean shirt is definitely one of them. I will admit that in my day I have trashed quite a few and now, lo and behold, they are back on the trendy wagon. Even I can be wrong sometimes:)

The problem with this piece is that it can be so damn hick that unless you completely funkify it, it looks like you should be at a hoe down in the back woods of Alabama. Not that that is a bad place to be, but there is a very specific look that only works at such a soiree and will not fly anywhere else!
There should be a warning label when purchasing this shirt, “DO NOT EVER WEAR WITH JEANS”. I think many manufacturers forget to attach that tag. How harmful for the very delicate eyes of so many people. It pains me to see the jean tuxedo done so deliberately.

Take a cue from Vanessa Hudgens, show off your sexy, funky, fun side when working the denim western shirt. By pairing it with short shorts and boots you are playing up the western element while touching upon a modern trend. How I do love a themed outfit, not like you are going to the hoedown, but maybe just merely passing by…. She even goes as far as to pull in some western styled jewelry with her cuff bracelet. And look at that fringe bag, LOVE the added effort Vanessa!

So pull out that jean western shirt and start styling. But, be wary and heed the lessons that I have so deliberately taught here. Walk on the right side of fashion and pull off this trend correctly.. Giddy up!

Let Your Umbrella Shine

It is crappy here. It is raining, it is cold, it just stinks. So why not talk about fabulously amazing umbrellas?!? It makes everything appear shiny again:) I love a good fashion pick-me-up.

Apparently so did Mary Poppins. She not only loved her bag, but she was quite fashion forward with her stylish umbrella as well. And so I ask, why is it that most people refuse to spend any money on this very worthy item? I am a culprit as well. Living in NYC, it is easy to pick up a $3 umbrella on any street corner, on any rainy day. It is also easy to lose this $3 umbrella on any street corner, on any rainy day. So I guess that is my answer. Why would one spend money on an item that is so easily lost?

And here is my answer: You can easily spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of shades that has the same “losability” as your umbrella. Yet, you go for it and purchase the hot Gucci sunglasses. For around $30-$50 you can have your very own super stylish umbrella that, just like a great bag, will up the ante of any rainy day look. In crappy weather it is a necessity to look hot!
