City to Country Style

This week on #CommunityClosetChallenge I chatted with Crystina, a 40-something HR manager at a farm who is originally from Boston but recently moved to upstate NY, about how to transition her big city wardrobe to a country look. You can still look chic on the countryside!

BE YOURSELF! NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE.

This is a must. You should always be you no matter where you are living. Clothing is a suit of armor to make you feel like your most bad-ass self, not a costume. The key is to identify your favorite element of your style and showcase it no matter where you are. If big jewelry is your thing, wear it. Just style it for your new locale. For example, country style = stone jewelry. Leave the big pearls for city life…..

HOW TO STYLE YOUR CITY DRESS “COUNTRY”

Just because you move does not mean you need to get rid of everything you own for your “new life.” Is this a great opportunity to clean out your closet with an iron fist? Yes. Is it also a moment to challenge your restyling capabilities? Hell yes. Check out my checklist below for tips on how to instantly turn your city pieces into country friendly looks. Hint: A blue denim jacket is your new best friend.

MASK STYLE. YES, THIS IS NOW A “THING”

Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine that I’d be giving styling tips for face masks, and yet, here we are. Get ready, this is going to rival your sunglasses collection. It’s essentially the same thing. It goes on your face the moment you leave the house and you want it to complete your look, not compete with it. If this idea is so ridiculous to you (it kind of is to me too), choose a mask retailer that is donating all proceeds to a charity. Style mixed with good doing is always in fashion.
