Create Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe

This week on #CommunityClosetChallenge I chatted with Sherrie, a 30-something stay-at-home mom who is looking to buy a new summer wardrobe after losing 20 pounds. You’ll wear these must-have pieces over and over to every fitting occasion this summer.

THE PERFECT SUMMER DRESS

Dresses are most people’s number one go-to in the summertime. Why? Because it is one and done. Your look is complete with a singular fabulous item. So why not make it the perfect piece no matter your body type, budget or lifestyle? A “sexy mumu” is the ultimate option. You look hot and you can eat 3 cheeseburgers at the BBQ. The main components of this option are slinky straps, an open, low neckline leading into a super loose and flowy long dress.

CHANGE YOUR WHOLE LOOK WITH SUNGLASSES

Sunglasses are one of the most important things you will own. They can upgrade and stylize your entire look in an instant. You go from having a “meh” outfit to freakin’ fabulous all by choosing the right sunnies for your face. This should be a collection. Take time to craft the wide variety of options you should and will have. The basics should include aviators (sporty and casual you) and an oversized pair (glam and chic you). My collection even includes options for specific locations…. Miami, the Hamptons, Greece, etc. And remember, a collection of anything takes time. This is a marathon, not a sprint!

THE ULTIMATE JEAN SHORTS

Jean shorts are not for everyone, I get that. I also believe that it is probably a case of not finding the right pair for your body type, budget and lifestyle. I believe whole-heartedly that they should NOT be expensive. I also believe that they should be comfortable. This is often a hard combo to come by unless you know a stylist who can tell you where to find them. Oh hello, my name is Amy, have we met? American Eagle (yes, the store for teenagers) has the best jean shorts ever. High-waisted, stretchy, long(er) and super comfortable. Boom, problem solved.
