Style Your Summer Wardrobe for Fall

This week on #CommunityClosetChallenge, Caroline, a recent high school graduate, is off to college and looking for a chic yet casual new look. She is moving in by herself and only bringing 2 suitcases. Can I help her create a capsule wardrobe that can go from late summer to early fall? Yup!

ROLL YOUR SLEEVES. YOU LOOK COOLER!

It is one of the easiest ways to instantly make you look skinnier, trendier and cooler. With that much awesomeness created in an instant, why wouldn’t you do it? By rolling up the sleeves of a shirt or a blazer, you are defining your waist by drawing the eye to your middle. In addition, often times leaving a sleeve down allows a garment to overwhelm your body. Basically the item is wearing you rather than you wearing the item. If this seems confusing, watch the video above and be amazed by the magic of a rolled up sleeve!

HOW TO ROCK A BLANKET STYLE SWEATER.

I am all about function first, fashion second. And if we can make that function ridiculously comfortable in the family of a blanket, then hell yes! An oversized, blanket-style sweater is all the jam. It can be used on a cozy Sunday afternoon for lounging or go out on a Saturday night with skinny jeans and heeled booties. It is basically your go-to piece for any “I just threw this on and look fabulous look”.

TO BELT OR NOT TO BELT.

Lots of people think that if something is oversized they NEED to belt it, not so. Stay away from the belts!!! In fact, do the exact opposite. Let your oversized item be just that, oversized. Don’t fight with the silhouette. So you don’t get swallowed by it, everything else you have on should be fairly fitted. And if you want to define your waist, put on a long pendant necklace that hits right at your belly button. This draws the eye in just as a belt would!
